CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WRIC) -- In this week's "Positively Richmond," local police officers, pro athletes and children from Bellwood Elementary School played every child's favorite game: capture the flag.
In an attempt to bridge the gap between pro athletes, officers and the community, athletes and officers joined third and fifth graders from Bellwood for a quick game on Friday.
Redskins player and UVA graduate, Billy McMullen, attended the event.
Elizabeth Stowers, with the Communities in Schools of Chesterfield, spoke with 8News about the event's purpose.
"We really wanted them to recognize that these police officers that they're playing with and these professional athletes are part of their community, and are people they may see every day," said Stowers.
The event was sponsored by the Communities in Schools of Chesterfield non-profit and the Chesterfield Police Athletic Academy.
